“For Your iPhone Only”

Started by manalang · 9 months ago

For those Oracle people who come here to read iPhone fodder, I’ve started an internal wiki to collect all the tips and tricks that have surfaced from Oracletes with iPhones. Drop me a note to get the 411.
Rich is still jealous. However, he may be in luck. Paul may be taking AppsLab ... Continue reading »

  • I know you said it's for internal use only, but I'd be really interested in any Oracle Calendar iPhone tricks you have. We're using it where I work (as a support tech) and we're seeing more and more iPhones popping up around campus.
  • Drew,
I guess it depends on the version you're running. From what I've seen, you'll need to export to ical or vcal, then import to iCal to sync to iPhone. It's a bit clunky, but that's 50% Apple's fault for only supporting iCal. I think there's some kung fu you could do on the server side to export a calendar automatically, but you still have the manual iCal step.
Keep in mind I still run Palm for my calendar b/c it has 10 years of data, and I haven't found a good way to move it all to a modern calendar.
I'll bet you could find some sweet hacks out there to make it easier.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. Wait until Rich gets one, then I suspect you'll find a lot more iPhone hacks here.
    Thanks,
    Jake
  • Jake.
Did Rich go to the conference? I really want the hack to get Oracle Calendar entries on the iPhone. Our wonderful Collabsuite Connector will not allow us to sync to Collabsuite. To bad the iPhone doesnt support SyncML (or does it? ). My Nokia was getting along with Oracle's SyncML for calendar.
  • Alas, Rich decided to do other things. We should start a "Buy Rich an iPhone" pool to get him to hack together some tools.

I have no idea about SyncML. Drop me an email, and I'll point you to the internal wiki I started.

    Jake
  • It would sure be nice if Oracle Cal offered something like https://tools.wisccal.wisc.edu/cal/index.jsp out of the box.
  • Totally. You are not alone. We use it internally, so we're pushing to get more features too.
    Jake
  • can you send me the link to the internal wiki that you started to get iphone to sync with oracle collab suite.

    thanks,
  • Shawn: I can't send it to you if I don't know who you are :-)
  • Jake : Can I get access to your internal wiki ? I'm interested and ... I'm from Oracle ;) Thanks !
  • I would also be interested in getting the calendar working... Any chance in getting acres to that info on how to make it work? Only the export/import method seems to work....
  • Just got my iPhone and would like to sync to collab calendar as well. could you email me the link to your internal wiki?
  • I am at oracle and I would love access to that Wiki too. Just got the iPhone and I am a little bummed that I can't sync it to my calendar.
  • I just downloaded iTunes 7.5 (which was released today) and with that, the Outlook Calendar sync work like a charm. Sync capability with Outlook Connector plug in was one feature I was waiting for from the time I bought my iPhone. Now with the new iTunes update, that no longer is an issue.
  • Praveen: This is good news. Send me an email, and I'll send you the wiki site, so you can document the process. There are a lot of people out there who want calendar integration.
  • can you please email the wiki to me? i'm a sales rep and I'd like to use an iPhone as well.
  • Hi, I'd like to use email, contacts, and calendar sync with Oracle Collab Suite (on my iPhone)... I work for Oracle as well.

  • Tim/Paul: If you work for Oracle, send me a note from your work accounts. You used personal accounts in the comments.
  • Unfortunately, I am not working for Oracle .........
  • can you please email the wiki to me? I work for oracle and I’d like to use my iPhone as well.
  • Paul: Unfortunately, the wiki is internal to Oracle for the experiences of employees with iPhones. You could start an external one over at wiki.oracle.com.
  • can you please email the wiki to me? i’m a sales rep and I’d like to use my iPhone calendar as well.
  • Can you please forward the internal iPhone Wiki site? I'm an Oracle employee.

    Thanks

  • could i please have the link as well? i am trying to sync iphone with oracle :) thanks xoxo jacinta xoxo
  • Jacinta: Sorry, the wiki is inside the Oracle firewall, so it's for employees only. Feel free to start a wiki on this subject at the Oracle wiki, wiki.oracle.com.
  • Hey! I'm new employee at ORCL and I'm psyched about my iphone.... Until I found out I couldn't get Collab suite on it. Can I get the link to the internal wiki?

  • Guys,

Please have a look at http://syncml2iphone.com/pmwiki.php
I use it to sync my calendar with Oracle Calendar

    BRGD
    Chris
  • FYI, syncml requires a jailbreak.
  • Don't use syncml2iphone, you're giving them your username and password.
  • You should try the iPhone client of Funambol, which is open source and syncs your native address book of the iPhone with a SyncML server. You need a jailbreak or you can use the web interface. And it won't need a jailbreak as soon as Apple releases its SDK this month.

    Check it out at http://www.funambol.com/solutions/iphone.php
    Cheers,

  • Hi Jake,

I am an Oracle employee too, with a new iPhone.

Could you please send me the internal wiki link? Also, is there any where i can look to activate WiFi in my phone to use Oracle's network? I cant seem to get the settings right.

    Any help will be appretiated.
    Thx.

    Sid
  • I work for the computer center at the University of Illinois at Chicago; I write our Web pages. I'm working on a Web page about syncing iPhones with Oracle Connector. May I please have your internal wiki link? (I don't plagiarize! :)

    Thanks!

    Judy GS
  • @Judy: Sorry, but the wiki lives inside the Oracle firewall. So, it wouldn't do you any good. Most of the info is about how to use the iPhone with our internal collaboration tools, not generally about Oracle products and iPhones. Thanks.
  • Hello!
I'm a Graphic Designer and Usability Specialist within the Technology Business at Oracle, working out of the Reston Office. I just picked up an iPhone tonight and I'd love a link to the internal wiki!
    Thanks,
    Charlie
  • Hi - I am an Oracle employee (Consulting division). Can you send me the wiki link for the internal discussion on iphones?

    Thx, Beth
  • Hi- I am an employee of a university using an Outlook with the Oracle connector. In light of last night's Apple announcement to provide full Exchange integration, will Oracle be following suit? Many of us on faculty and Staff would like to or already have iPhones and want to be able to sync to Outlook but can't. Additionally our ITS Dept. has concerns that they will not be able to provide support and may be recomending Blackberrys instead. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  • @Eduardo: I can't speak for product development and their current plans.

I can suggest that you join Oracle Mix and add this as an idea to gauge the support it has. Mix is reviewed by product teams so the appropriate team can see the idea and judge the support behind it.

Based on the number of comments and requests I get each week for the iPhone wiki driven by this post, I'd say you have a pretty large number of Oracle employees who would support your idea.
  • No prizes for guessing my question....can you please send through the wiki link to me?
    Thanks

Sid - i got my ipone working against oracles guest network easily (clear guest) downside is the password changes daily.
  • I too am an Oracle Employee and would like to have the Wiki site. Can you please send?

    Thank You

    Tom
  • I would like to internal info for the calendar sync. I have firmware 1.1.4 and I guess I can't use the jailbrake that I found out there. Can you help a less than technical lover of the iphone?

    Thanks!
  • @kathleen: Sorry, but the wiki lives inside the Oracle firewall and collects information about how to use the iPhone with our internal systems.

Why do you want to jailbreak your phone? Is there a specific app you want to use?
  • Hi! Jake - just got an iPhone, would really like a way to sync calendar. Thanks for sharing info.
  • Hi Jake,
  • Hi Jake, Would love to get the info for the internal wiki. Thanks, Yan

  • Hi there. The wiki is no more. It was replaced by official IT content, and there's no good way to sync with Collabsuite. Although I hear they have something from a third party, I don't use it. Thanks.
  • hi - can you send me link to internal wiki?
    Thanks!
  • @Martine: I've created a group on Connect for all things iPhone, including a link to the old wiki page. I invited you to join.

  • Hi Jake,

Could you please email me the link of the internal iphone wiki page.
Also there seems to be a product that will allow you to wirelesly sync your oracle calendar with your iphone. It's called syncml2iphone. Does anyone have experience with this product?

    Regards,
    Ruud
  • I’m an oracle employee, could you send me the link to the
    internal wiki page?
  • i'm interesting too ;), thanks
  • Me too
  • Hi Jay. Sorry, but this wiki was for employees only, and the content has been deprecated.
  • Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
It sure sucks that Oracle employees are enjoying an internal solution
while us paying Oracle customers are left without one.
    :-(

Do you know why it was deprecated? Was an alternative solution published
    anywhere?
Is this what I'm looking for maybe? http://code.google.com/p/ocal2ical/

    Jay
  • Not sure exactly what you mean by solution, but I don't think we have one officially.

I started the wiki in July 2007, right when the iPhone debuted, to collect tips/settings on how to connect to email, etc. At the time, there were dozens of iPhone users internally, not thousands.

After the 3G iPhone came out, our IT published the same content, and I took down my wiki b/c it fractured the information and was extra cost to maintain for our team.

    Sorry to disappoint.
  • Sorry, I was specifically looking for how to get working ical files out of Oracle Calendar so users can subscribe from Google, sundbird, etc. Some posts indicated there was a solution on the internal Oracle wiki for this, so that's what I was after.

I'll move forward with ocal2ical code on google

    Cheers!
  • Ah, got it. If there was solution on the wiki, it would have been what you can find out on the 'tubes :) We don't hold back secret stuff that's not for customers.

I can tell you that those on Beehive have more options, but I am not one of the lucky ones to be migrated to Beehive yet.
  • Hi Jake...can I get the link plz....thnx!!!
